Franco Foda is a German retired defender and current coach of the second-division club FC Kaiserslautern. He was born on 23 April 1966 in Mainz, Germany.
As a player, Foda shone for many German clubs such as FC Kaiserslautern, Arminia Bielefeld, FC Saarbrücken, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart. He recorded two German Cups, one with Kaiserslautern in 1990 and the other with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1993. In 1997, Foda had a short spell at the Swiss giant club Basel and moved to Austrian powerhouse side Sturm Graz the same year. The four-year spell at Graz was the most successful period of Foda’s playing career as he collected two Austrian Champion titles, two Austrian Cups and one Super Cup together with the club.
In 2001, the German retired as a player and took up coaching at an amateur side of Sturm Graz. Later on he was appointed an assistant coach and since 2006 till 2012, Foda was at the helm as the main coach of the team. He led the club to the Austrian Cup win in 2010 and Austrian Football Bundesliga title in 2011. In May 2012, Franco Foda took over the coaching reins at Kaiserslautern from the 2. Bundesliga and coaches the team till today.
