Fred Rutten is a former Dutch footballer, who was born on 5 December 1962 in Wijchen.
He spent his entire playing career in football club Twente, where he made his debut in 1979 and stayed till 1992, totaling 317 appearances and scoring 11 goals.
Rutten’s managerial work started in Twente, where he worked as an assistant manager and technical director, later receiving an appointment as the head coach. After spending two seasons in the team, Rutten moved to Schalke 04, yet coached the side only for half a season. The most successful stint in Rutten’s managerial career started in the season 2009/2010, when the Dutchman became PSV boss and under his tenure the side did not lose in 39 consecutive matches.
After heading PSV for three seasons, Rutten was chosen as Vitesse manager for the season 2012/2013.
In 2014 Rutten took charge of Feyenoord.
