Frederic Antonetti was born on August 19, 1961 in Venzolasca. He is a former French footballer and currently a coach. He had been in charge of Stade Rennais since June 2, 2009 to 2013.
Frederic spent the major part of his career in SC Bastia as a midfielder. In addition, he played in the UEFA Cup Final in 1978 where his team defeated PSV Eindhoven. But his playing career was relatively short.
At the end of his career, in 1990, Frederic Antonetti joined SC Bastia football center and worked with young players for four years. Those were difficult times when the team neither had a stadium nor money. But the coach did a good job which was approved by the club management. Later, he participated in the 1996/1997 UEFA Intertoto Cup after which they finished ninth in the championship. In July 1998, Antonetti moved to Japan to coach Gamba Osaka. He spent a season there after which he returned to France. Again he took charge of SC Bastia and actively used his new skills. But soon he had to leave the club due to discipline issues.
After Alain Michel was fired from AS Saint-Etienne in 2001, the club was in a difficult position fearing relegation. In addition, there were certain financial risks. But Antonetti managed to pull the club out of the slough and the club remained in the elite. Later, he also was in charge of OGC Nice and took training course in Great Britain.
On June 2, 2009 Frederic Antonetti became Rennes head coach. After three stable years Frederic extended the contract for two more years but was released at the end of the 2012/2013 season.
