Gavin Wilkinson is a New Zealand coach and former defender born on 5 November 1973 in Auckland, New Zealand.
Gavin started out his professional career with his hometown side Waitakere City in 1992. Since 1996 till 1999, he played for Perth Glory in the Australian A-league being awarded the Perth Glory Most Glorious Player title in the 1996/97 season. Wilkinson spent the 1999/2000 season at a Hong Kong side Instant-Dict and then had a short spell at Singapore club Geylang United. He played for the Irish club Kilkenny City in the 2000/01 season before joining the American side Portland Timbers. Wilkinson made a total of 124 solid appearances for the club during a six-year stint before retirement.
He took up coaching still playing for the Timbers in the 2005 season being appointed their assistant coach. In 2007, Gavin Wilkinson became the head coach of the club that still competed in the United Soccer League. For his immense work and contribution, he was awarded the USL-1 Coach of the Year title twice, in 2007 and 2009.
