Giampiero Ventura was born on 14 January 1948 in Genoa. His playing career was curtailed by back injury when he was only 25 and after retiring Ventura embarked on a managerial path, working as an assistant coach in Sampdoria. In 1981 the Italian left the team in order to acquire experience as a head coach with smaller teams. He worked with Spezia, Pistoiese, Giarre, Venezia.
After showing remarkable results in Serie B the Italian tactician came into the top division, managing Lecce (earned two promotions to Seria A), Cagliari (Seria A promotion), Udinese (14th place in Seria A).
Ventura also worked with Napoli Soccer, Messina, Verona and Pisa. His latest achievement was 10th place with Bari, as the side showed attractive and spectacular football and defeated Juventus and Palermo.
Torino appointed Ventura as a head coach on April 22, 2012.
