Gian Piero Gasperini is a football manager from Italy, a retired player. He was born in 1958 and came through the youth ranks of Juventus, which he joined at the age of 9. Having graduated from the academy, Gasperini had a season with the senior team, featured in the Coppa Italia games, and then was loaned to Reggiana. In 1978 he transferred to Palermo, which played in Serie B. There he stayed for five seasons, then played for Cavese and Pistoiese and in 1985 he joined Pescara. He helped Pescara to advance to the top flight, stayed there five seasons and moved to Salernitana. The last team he played for before his retirement was Vis Pesaro.
Having retired as player Gasperini took over as a football manager. Between 1994 and 2003 he was in charge of Juventus youth teams, firstly U-14, then U-17 and U-20 squads.
Since 2003 he spent three seasons at the helm of Crotone, guiding them from Serie C to Serie B. Between 2006 and 2010 Gasperini was the manager of Genoa and in the 2008/09 season he led the side to the fifth-place finish, which allowed the team to compete in the UEFA Europa League. In November 2010 he was sacked due to poor results. In 2011 he has a short period with Internazionale and then was dismissed.
From September 2012 to 2013 he had been the head coach of Palermo two times, being fired twice. In tha autumn 2013 Gasperini was offered a contract with Genoa.
