Giovanni Trapattoni is an Italian retired football player and a manager.
He was born in 1939 in Cusano Milanino and started his playing career in Milan where he spent almost his entire career and made 274 appearances. He also played for the Italian national team. During his career in Milan from 1959 till 1971 the team won one Italian Cup, two Italian Leagues, two European Cup titles, 1967/68 UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup and 1969 Intercontinental Cup.
Giovanni Trapattoni joined Varese for one season and finished playing in 1972. In that year he took charge of Milan youth team and in 1975 he headed the first team. Since 1976 till 1994 he coached Juventus, with four year break when having a spell in Internazionale.
In 1994 he left Italy for Germany, where he headed Bayern Munich till 1996 and then from 1996 to 1998.
During the season 1994/95 he coached Cagliari and since 1998 he spent two seasons in Fiorentina.
Giovanni Trapattoni was appointed the head coach of the Italian national team in 2000, worked there till 2004 and left it for Portuguese League club Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Then he coached German VfB Stuttgart and Austrian Red Bull Salzburg.
In 2008 Trapattoni took charge of the Republic of Ireland national team. In 2011 the team won the Nations Cup and in 2012 qualified for UEFA Euro 2012.
Two matches to the end of the qualifying campaign to the World Cup 2014 Trapattoni resigned from his job.
