Gordon David Strachan is a retired Scottish player, currently he is a manager of the Scotland national team. He was born in 1957 and at the age of 14 he joined Dundee. In the 1975/76 and 1976/77 seasons he was used regularly but in 1977/78 season Strachan lost his place in the first team and in November 1977 he signed a deal with Aberdeen. During his stay there the team was Scottish Premier Division title winner in 1979/80 and 1983 /84. Since 1982 they won three consecutive Scottish Cup tournaments, in 1983 they were European Cup Winners’ Cup and European Super Cup winners.
In August 1984 Gordon Strachan joined Manchester United for £500,000 and stayed there till 1989. He helped United to win the 1985 FA Cup. During his spell at Old Trafford, he picked up injuries and stayed aside several periods.
In 1989 Strachan moved to a second division team Leeds United and was given the captain’s armband. They finished the 1989/90 season with the Second Division title thus promoted to the top flight. The following season they were fourth in the First Division, advanced to the semi-finals of the League Cup and Strachan was awarded FWA Footballer of the Year. In 1991/92 he helped the team to win Football League First Division.
In 1995 Gordon Strachan joined Coventry City where he was a playing coach. He became an assistant manager to r Ron Atkinson and sometimes he featured on the field. In 1996 Strachan became the head coach, replacing Atkinson. At the start of the 2001/02 campaign he was sacked and shortly after that took charge of Southampton. In 2004 re resigned and in June 2005 after an interval, he was appointed the head coach of Celtic. Strachan led the side to Scottish Premier League titles in 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08.
In October 2009 he took over as a manager of Middlesbrough but in October 2010 he left the team because of the poor start of the season. In January 2013 Strachan was appointed the manager of the Scotland national football team.
