Gustavo Julio Alfaro is a retired Argentine footballer currently coaching Arsenal de Sarandí. He was born in 1962 in Rafaela, Argentina. He didn’t have a long playing career, which he spent at Atlético de Rafaela from 1988 till 1992 and after the retirement Alfaro took over as his team’s coach and worked there from 1992 to 1995. Then he was at the helm of Patronato de Paraná, Quilmes and after that he returned to Atlético de Rafaela for some time. After that he took charge of Olimpo and helped them to gain promotion to the Primera Division. The following team he coached was Quilmes, where Alfaro used to work earlier. During the 2003/04 season he brought them to the Primera Division and they finished fourth and sixth and got the chance to participate in the 2005 Copa Libertadores and 2004 Copa Sudamericana.
In 2005, Gustavo Alfaro had a short spell at San Lorenzo and after that he took care of Arsenal de Sarandí. Under his guidance the team finished fifth thus qualified for the Copa Libertadores and the 2007 Copa Sudamericana. Arsenal won that Copa Sudamericana. That title was the team’s and Alfaro’s first ever success. In autumn 2008 he took charge of Rosario Central then left it for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, where he stayed for four months. In May 2010 he was announced the head coach of Arsenal de Sarandí and at the end of June the team won their first Clausura title, that was Alfaro’s first title as well.
