Jean-Marc Furlan was born on November 20, 1957 in Sainte-Foy-la-Grande. As a professional footballer, he played in the position of central defender (1975-1993). He was an average player and never stood out among others.
He began his playing career in FC Girondins de Bordeaux together with which Furlan won Coupe Gambardella. Playing at the senior level, he appeared for such clubs as Stade Laval, Olympique Lyonnais, Tours FC, SC Bastia, Montpellier HSC, AS Libourne, etc. In 1993, Jean-Marc became a coach and had his first coaching practice in the AS Libourne youth team. He was improving his skills there till 1997 after which he was at the helm till 2004. In 2004, Furlan joined Troyes AC and soon helped them win promotion to the first division. In 2007, the coach took charge of RC Strasbourg to lead them in 82 matches. In 2009, he took FC Nantes over and later returned to Troyes AC (then played in the second division). The coach had to start everything anew there and in 2011 he managed to return the team to the French elite. So far, Troyes AC has had eighty matches with Jean-Marc Furlan at the helm.
