Jess Thorup is a Danish retired footballer and a manager. He was born in 1970 and spent his youth playing career at OB. He began his senior career at OB in 1989 and played for them till 1996, helping them with Danish 1st Division title in 1989 and two Danish Cup wins in 1991 and 1993. In total he featured in 134 matches and scored 29 goals.
In 1996 Thorup moved to Germany, where he played for KFC Uerdingen 05 and in 1998 he switched to Austrian club FC Wacker Tirol for a short spell. From 1998 to 2005 Thorup played for Esbjerg fB and during seven seasons he made 203 appearances and scored 58 goals. In 2005 he joined Norwegian team HamKam and in 2006 he retired after his last stint at Esbjerg fB, during which he made only one appearance.
In 2008 he became the caretaker of Esbjerg, then stayed with the club as an assistant coach and finally in March 2011 was appointed the head coach. At the end of 2012/2013 season Thorup left the club and took charge of Denmark U-21 squad.
