John Hackworth is an American coach and former football defender. He was born on 5 February 1970 in Dunedin, the USA.
As a player, he spent two seasons at an amateur club Carolina Crunch and then had a short spell at Carolina Dynamo in 1997.
Hackworth embarked on his coaching career in 1992 when he was appointed an assistant coach with the women’s team at Wake Forest. In 1994, he began to coach their men’s team. In between 1998 and 2001, Hackworth managed the team of the University of South Florida. For five years, since 2002 to 2009, he was the supremo of the United States U-17 team, initially hired as an assistant. In 2010, John Hackworth took over reins at Philadelphia Union.
