Jorge Luis Pinto is a Colombian football coach, born on 16 December 1952 in San Gil, Colombia. He entered into coaching in 1984 when he was appointed the boss of Millonarios. For the following decade the Colombain tactician headed such clubs as Santa Fe, Unión Magdalena, Deportivo Cali, Alianza Lima, Atlético Bucaramanga, Alajuelense, Atlético Junior.
In 2004 Pinto was appointed as a manager of Costa Rica, yet failed to achieve success with the team and was dismissed in 2005.
After that Pinto returned to Colombia, where he led Corporación Nuevo Cúcuta Deportivo to the victory in the championship. After spending a season in the side, he was selected as the Colombian national team coach. At this position he faced harsh criticism from the general public when the team did not manage to outperform Uruguay and Chile in the Qualification for 2010 World Cup. Even though the team’s results improved in 2008, eventually the side finished 7th in the group and did not qualify to the World Cup.
After leaving Colombian national team, Pinto trained El Nacional in 2009 and Deportivo Táchira in 2010.
In 2011 Pinto returned to the position of Costa Rica head coach. In 2014 Pinto saw Costa Rica beat Uruguay, Italy and Greece to reach the last eight at the World Cup in Brazil, where the team lost to Netherlands in penalty shoot-out. Shortly after the tournament the manager resigned having failed to agree on a new deal with the Federation.
