Jorvan Vieira is a coach and the former footballer. Jorvan was born on 24 May 1953 in Duque de Caxias. Vieira holds Portuguese, Moroccan, Iraqi and Brazilian nationalities. Nevertheless, the coach says that he feels himself to be a Portuguese.
Jorvan’s playing career lasted from 1970 to 1979. During that period, he performed for the teams of such clubs as Vasco da Gama, Botafogo and Portuguesa. Later on, he would coach all these clubs. Vieira’s already been the manager of five national teams and about 25 club squads.
Vieira’s coaching career started in 1980, when he joined Qatar SC. In two days, the former footballer was appointed as the head coach of Oman U-20 squad. Then Jorvan moved to Africa, where he spent the next eight years of his career. During that period he coached several clubs in Morocco. He proved to be a talented coach, leading FAR Rabat to the victory in the 1986 Moroccan Cup.
In 1986, Jorvan became the assistant coach to the national team of Morocco for the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He helped the squad to get into the second round of the championship. That was a real progress for African football.
After such a success, Vieira coached many other clubs and national sides. Among them was the Kuwait U-20 squad and the Malaysia U-20 squad. He was said to be appointed as the head coach of the Portuguese national side. But that was Carlos Queiroz who got the post.
Jorvan also led the Iraq team to the victory in the 2008 Gulf Cup. He left his post due to some financial problems.
In the summer 2012, Jorvan joined Zamalek as its new manager. One year later he was offered a job at the helm of Kuwait national football team.
