A Spanish coach José Luis Oltra was born in Valencia on March 24, 1969.
During his playing career he was in the squads of Valencia B, Sabadell, Levante, Yeclano, Elche and Ontinyent.
José Luis finished his playing career in 2001 and immediately began to work as a coach. His first team was from Catarroja which played in Tercera. In a year, he was in charge of Castellón and helped them to get promoted to the second division. The merits of the young coach did not remain unnoticed: Oltra was invited to coach the Levante reserve team. After a coach of the main Levante team left, Oltra was given the place but failed to remain in the position for a long time.
In 2006, José Luis was in charge of Murcia. The team finished eleventh in the championship. The club management decided not to extend the contract. Oltra eventually accepted the offer from Tenerife (at that time – a La Segunda team) and in a season the coach proved his qualification – the club was promoted to La Liga. The two following non-stable seasons made the management of the club sever Oltra’s contract. On November 24, 2010 José Luis began to coach Almeria and in half a year he resigned. In the summer of 2011, Oltra was appointed head coach of RC Deportivo La Coruña. The new coach had a task to return the team to La Liga. José Luis fulfilled the task successfully in his first season, but was sacked at the end of 2012 due to poor results.
He was appointed a Mallorca manager for the season 2013/2014, but was sacked in the middle of campaign.
