José Albano Ferreira da Mota was born in 1964 in Paredes, Portugal. Currently he is in charge of Vitória Setúbal.
He spent his playing career with Aliados do Lordelo FC and F.C. Paços de Ferreira. In the latest one he spent almost ten years before joining the managing stuff after retirement. In 1999, he was appointed the head coach. In 2004, he had a short stint with C.D. Santa Clara but very soon he returned to F.C. Paços de Ferreira. Under his guidance the team qualified for the 2006/07 UEFA Cup for the first time, though being knocked out in the first round.
From July 2008 till February 2010 José Mota headed the top-flight team Leixões SC, but being sacked he moved to Os Belenenses, where he worked until 2012. That year he became the head coach of Vitória Setúbal.
