José Néstor Pékerman is an Argentine former football player. He was born in 1949 in Villa Dominguez and when he was 12, his family moved to Buenos-Aires. There Pekerman started his playing career in Argentinos Juniors. In 1974 he moved to Independiente Medellin where he ended his career at the age of 28 because of the knee injury.
In several years he started coaching Argentine youth teams Chacarita Juniors, Argentinos Juniors and then Colo-Colo.
In 1994 Jose guided the Argentine national U-20 team and led them to three FIFA World Youth Championship titles.
In 2003 he moved to Spain, where he worked as Director of Football in Club Deportivo Leganés. José Pékerman was appointed the head coach of the Argentina national football team in September 2004 and led them to the 2006 World Cup quarter-final. In 2007 he moved to Club Toluca in Mexico. In 2009 Jose had a short spell in UANL Tigres.
He has been coaching the Colombia national football team since January 2012.
