Juan Antonio Pizzi is a Spanish former footballer, born in 1968 in Santa Fe, Argentina. He began his senior playing career at Rosario Central in 1988 and the 1990/91 season he played for the Mexican team Deportivo Toluca, where he had two spells. Twice they managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup. He had a season at Valencia CF, sandwiched in-between his time at Tenerife from 1993 till 1996.
After that Juan Antonio Pizzi had a two-season-long spell at FC Barcelona and during that period the side won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish League, Spanish Cup and Spanish Supercup. In 1998, he returned to Argentina and played for Club Atlético River Plate, had a short stint at Portuguese Porto and in 2002 he retired from his playing career after a short period at Villarreal CF.
Pizzi represented the Spain national football team, earned 22 caps and scored 8 goals. He was in the squad, representing the country at Euro 1996 and the 1998 World Cup.
In 2005, he took up managerial career and headed Colón de Santa Fe, then Universidad San Martín. Then he managed Santiago Morning, Universidad Católica, Rosario Central and in 2012 took charge of San Lorenzo. At the end of 2013 Juan Antonio was invited to take charge of Valencia CF.
