Karsten Baumann is a German retired defender and current coach of the 2. Bundesliga side FC Erzgebirge Aue. He was born on 14 October 1969 in Oldenburg.
Karsten embarked on his professional career at his hometown club VfB Oldenburg before moving to FC Köln in 1988 where he played for 10 years amassing 220 appearances for that time. In between 1998 and 2000, he played as a regular at Borussia Dortmund and then had spells at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, Viktoria Köln, Wuppertaler SV Borussia and SG Wattenscheid 09 until his retirement in 2006.
Baumann took up coaching with the third-division side Rot-Weiß Erfurt in 2008. The following year he moved to VfL Osnabrück helping them to promote into the 2. Bundesliga that season. In 2012, Karsten Baumann took over reins at FC Erzgebirge Aue and coaches the club till the date.
