Kenny Dalglish is a retired footballer and football manager from Scotland. He was born in 1951 in Glasgow and played for Cumbernauld United in 1967/68 and then played for Celtic reserves. In 1968 Dalglish made his first appearance for the first team in the Scottish League Cup match against Hamilton Academical. In 1971/72 he became team’s regular and in 1975/76 wore the captain’s armband. He appeared in 320 games and scored 167 goals for Celtic and in August 1977 moved to Liverpool.
Dalglish made his debut for his new side on 13 August 1977. He helped Liverpool to win UEFA Super Cup and European Cup in his first season with the club. He played for Liverpool up to the year of 1990 and since 1985 he was a playing coach. Throughout the time, Dalglish stayed with them, the team won Football League First Division six times, in 1985/86 and 1988/89 they won FA Cup, since 1981 they claimed four consecutive League Cup titles. They were European Cup winners in 1977/78, 1980/81, 1983/84.
In April 1991 Kenny Dalglish was appointed the head coach of Blackburn Rovers. In 1991/92 the team won the Football League Second Division Play Off, then Dalglish strengthened Blackburn with Alan Shearer, Tim Flowers, David Batty and Chris Sutton and finally in 1994/95 the team claimed Premier League title. In January 1997 he took charge of Newcastle United, but his period there wasn’t successful.
He became Director of Football at Celtic in June 1999 and in February 2000 he was appointed as the manager, but then returned to his position of Director of football.
In April 2009 Dalglish returned to Liverpool, where he began to coach the youth team. In January 2011 he became the first team caretaker later he was appointed the manager on a permanent deal. In 2011/12 he led the team to League Cup nevertheless he was sacked at the end of the season.
