Lars Edvin ‘Lasse’ Lagerbäck is a retired Swedish football player. He is a current head coach of the Iceland national football team.
He played for Swedish teams Alby FF and Gimonäs CK.
In 1977 Lars Lagerbäck took up managerial career and coached Kilafors IF, Arbrå BK, Hudiksvalls ABK.
In 1990 he became the manager of the Sweden Under-21 national team and from 1996 worked with the Sweden B national team. In 1998 he took charge of the Sweden national team.
Until 1999 he became an assistant coach and in 2000 he headed the team. Lars Lagerbäck brought the team to Euro 2000 qualifiers but they failed at the group stage. The Sweden national team was led to the Round of 16 of the 2002 World Cup and in Euro 2004 Sweden reached the quarter final. He brought Sweden to the 2006 World Cup, which was their fourth consecutive championship, and in 2008 the team qualified for UEFA Euro but bowed out at the group stage.
Lars Lagerbäck resigned after Sweden’s failure at the qualification campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
In February 2010 Lars Lagerbäck headed the Nigeria national team for a short period of time and in October 2011 he was appointed the head coach of the Iceland national team.
