Luiz Felipe Scolari is a Brazilian football manager. He was born in 1948 in Passo Fundo, Brazil. During his professional playing career he played for Caxias, Juventude, Novo Hamburgo, and CSA. In the latest one he remained after finishing his playing career as a manager. He brought CSA to the Alagoano state championship win. After that he had several spells at Juventude, Brasil de Pelotas and the 1984/85 season he spent in Saudi Arabia guiding Al-Shabab. In 1987 and 1988, Scolari took charge of such strong Brazilian clubs as Grêmio and Goiás, leading the first one to the Gaúcho state championship victory.
In 1988, he moved to Kuwait and guided Al Qadisiya Kuwait during two years. He helped the team to win the Kuwait Emir Cup and then he had a short period at the Kuwait national team, helping them to win the Gulf Cup. After his return to Brazil Scolari was responsible for Criciúma and led them to the Copa do Brasil title. In 1991 and 1992 he managed Al-Ahli and Al Qadisiya and after that he returned to Brazil to coach Grêmio. He brought them to the 1996 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title and in 1997 he moved to Japan, taking charge of Júbilo Iwata, but didn’t stay there for long. That year he came back to Brazil and was at the helm of Palmeiras for three years. He led the team to the victories at Copa do Brasil, Copa Mercosur, Copa Libertadores and Torneio Rio-São Paulo. Having left the team, he managed Cruzeiro for a year.
The 2001/02 Scolari was the head coach of the Brazil national team and under his rule the team won the 2002 World Cup title. Then he managed the Portugal national team from 2003 to 2008.
The 2008/09 season Scolari was the tactician at Chelsea and in 2009/10 he guided the Uzbek team Bunyodkor. In the summer of 2010, he returned to Palmeiras, led them to the Copa do Brasil title and was sacked in September 2012.
In November 2012, Scolari was appointed the head coach of the Brazil national football team. He won Confederations Cup in 2013, but suffered humiliating defeats to Germany, 1-7, and Netherlands, 0-3, at 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Days after the tournament Scolari was sacked from his position. In the same month, Scolari was appointed as a manager of Gremio.
