Mario Been is a Dutch football coach and former professional midfielder.
As a player he featured in such Dutch clubs as Feyenoord, Roda JC, Heerenveen, Excelsior, the Italian club Pisa Calcio and Austrian side Tirol Innsbruck. In November 1984, he played his first and only international match against Austria.
Been embarked on coaching career as an assistant coach to Bert van Marwijk at his feeder club Feyenoord in 2000. In 2005, he moved to coach a fellow club Excelsior and helped them to break into the Eredivisie. In 2006, Mario Been took charge of NEC Nijmegen. He developed their game impressively and even helped them to qualify for the European championship for the first time.
In 2009, the Dutch supremo joined Feyenoord again. He had a stupendous debut season with the club as he led them to a fourth-place finish in Pro League snapping up a place in 2010/11 Europa League. On 24 October 2010, Been’s men were thrashed 0-10 by PSV Eindhoven turning to be Feyenoord’s biggest ever loss. However, been was confirmed as a coach for another season.
In August 2011, the Dutch took over reins at Genk and coaches the club till today. Mario Been got off to a flying start as his club beat rival Sint-Truidense 4-3 in his first match at the helm.
