Martin Hugh Michael O'Neill is a former player and football manager.
Martin was born on 1 March 1952 in Kilrea, the Northern Ireland. He played for the youth squads of Pádraig Pearse's Kilrea and Derry. After that, Martin signed for St. Columb's College, then for St. Malachy's College and, eventually, for Distillery.
In 1971, being the player of Distillery, O’Neill won the Irish Cup. The same year he transferred to Nottingham Forest.
Martin was also capped for the Northern Ireland national team. In 1982, during the World Cup, he was the captain of his team. O’Neill was the leader of Norwich City, Wycombe Wanderers, Leicester City and Celtic. Being the head coach of Celtic, Martin won three Scottish Premier Leagues and made his way through to the UEFA Cup Finals. Till 9 August 2010, Martin was in charge of Aston Villa. In 2012-2013 Martin was a head coach of Sunderland but was sacked in March 2013 due to poor run of results.
In November 2013 O'Neill was appointed the manager of the Ireland national football team.
