Michael Appleton is an English coach and former professional midfielder. He was born on 4 December 1975 in Salford, England.
A product of Manchester United youth system, Michael signed his first professional contract with the club in 1994. However, his career really picked up steam at Preston North End where Appleton played since 1997 till 2001. In 2001, he joined West Bromwich Albion and shortly cemented his place as a regular starter. But in November Appleton suffered a serious knee injury that forced him to retire in 2003.
In 2011, Appleton embarked on his managerial career as a caretaker at West Bromwich Albion. In a short time he moved to Portsmouth. In November 2012, Michael Appleton took charge over Blackpool in the English Championship. After just 66 days in charge of the Orange squad Michael was invited to train fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers. Nevertheless, his spell with Rovers was not a long one as he was released in March 2013.
