Mircea Lucescu is a Romanian retired football player, currently responsible for Shakhtar Donetsk. He was born in 1945 in Bucharest, Romania, and during his professional football career played for many Romanian teams and also represented the national team from 1966 till 1979 making more than 70 appearances.
At the beginning of the managerial career Lucescu coached some Romanian clubs, the Romania national team and then moved to Italy, where he guided Pisa, Brescia, Reggiana and Inter Milan. Since 2000 to 2002 he was in charge of Galatasaray S.K. During his staying here he led the Turkish side to Turkish Super League title, UEFA Super Cup and brought the squad to the quarterfinals of UEFA Champions League. In June he was appointed the head coach of Beşiktaş J.K. and in their 100th anniversary guided them to Turkish Super League title in 2002/03 and the quarterfinal of UEFA Cup.
In May 2004, Lucescu took charge of Shakhtar Donetsk and led the team to the 2003/04 Ukrainian Cup. In the 2004/05 season his side won the Premier League title and since then they won the Premier League every season except two. He led the team to the Ukrainian Cup in 2007/08, 2010/11, 2011/12 and next season they won the Super Cup. Then Shakhtar won the 2008/09 UEFA Cup and in the 2010/11 season reached the quarterfinals of UEFA Champions League.
