Mixu Paatelainen is a retired football player from Finland, who is currently coaching the national team of Finland. He started his playing career in FC Haka in 1985, where he made 48 appearances and scored 18 goals. After spending two seasons in the club and winning the Finnish Cup, he was signed by the Scottish side Dundee United, where he stayed for 5 seasons.
In 1992 the forward moved to Aberdeen, where he played in 75 matches and netted the ball 23 times. Paatelainen’s most successful period in career started in 1994, when he was signed by Bolton Wanderers. He helped the team to receive promotion to the Premier League. After spending three seasons in Bolton, the player joined Wolverhampton Wanderers, yet later decided to return to Scotland. From 1998 to 2005 he played for Hibernian, St. Johnstone and St. Mirren.
Paatelainen made 70 international caps for Finland and scored 18 goals.
His first full-time manager experience was the Scottish Third Division club Cowdenbeath that he led to the league victory. In 2006 the tactician worked with the Finnish club TPS, a season later he was appointed as the head coach of the Scottish side Hibernian. In 2010 Kilmarnock selected Paatelainen as a new head coach; the manager was highly praised for his work with the side.
On 31 March 2011 he was appointed as the head coach of the national team of Finland.
