Morten per Olsen is a retired Danish footballer. He has been guiding the Denmark national team since 2000.
Olsen was born in Vordingborg in 1949 and started playing for Vordingborg IF at the age of eight. When he was twenty he made his debut in the national youth team. In the year of 1970 he joined B 1901 and left it in 1972 for Belgian club Cercle Brugge.
Olsen spent six years in Racing White Daring Molenbeek since 1976. In 1980 he moved to R.S.C. Anderlecht where won three Belgian First Division titles and 1982/83 UEFA Cup.
He finished his playing career in Germany, having played for FC Köln since 1986 till 1989.
Morten Olsen headed Danish Brøndby IF in 1990 and led the team to the semi-final of the 1990/91 UEFA Cup. In 1992 he headed 1. FC Köln and managed to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga. Working in Germany, Olsen was certified with ‘Fußball-Lehrer-Lizenz’ diploma and in August 1995 he left the club.
In 1997 after two-year break he headed Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands and in 2000 took over the Denmark national team. He called up Michael Laudrup, Danish national team captain to assist him, and Denmark qualified for the 2002 FIFA World Cup tournament though were knocked out after their first play-off.
Under his guidance Denmark qualified for the 2004 European Championship and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
