Mykhaylo Fomenko is an ex-footballer, later a football manager. He was born in 1948 and played for Spartak Sumy, Zorya Luhansk and between 1972 and 1979 he played for Dynamo Kyiv. While playing for Dynamo Kyiv they won Soviet Top League in 1974, 1975 and 1977. In 1974 and 1978 the team were Soviet Cup winners, in 1975 they won UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup. Fomenko was a part of the Soviet national team, when they finished runners-up at the 1972 UEFA European Championship and won bronze medals at Summer Olympics in 1976.
After retirement he went in for managerial career and guided many Ukrainian teams, among which were Dynamo Kyiv, Metalist Kharkiv and CSCA Kyiv. He led Dynamo to the Ukrainian Top League and Ukrainian Cup title in 1993 and helped CSCA Kyiv to finish runners-up at the domestic cup in 2001. In December 2012 Fomenko was appointed the head coach of the Ukraine national team.
