Nélson Baptista Júnior is a football manager from Brazil. Currently he takes charge of Kashiwa Reysol. A retired footballer, he was born in 1950 in Campinas, Brazil. He began his professional playing career at Ponte Preta. The most successful period in his cereer was in São Paulo, where he played from 1971 till 1977. There he made 262 appearances and scored 6 goals.
Baptista began his managerial career in 1985 and coached such Brazilian teams as São Bento, Ponte Preta, Internacional de Limeira, Atlético Paranaense, América-SP, Novorizontino, Corinthians, Guarani, Palmeiras, Internacional, Cruzeiro, São Paulo, Portuguesa, Goiás, Flamengo and São Caetano.
From 2003 to 2005 he lived in Japan, coaching Nagoya Grampus Eight, and then he returned to Brazil, where he took over as the manager of Santos, São Caetano, which he had used to work with earlier, Ponte Preta and Corinthians where he also had already worked. In 2007, he took charge of Sport Recife and led them to the 2008 Campeonato Pernambucano and Copa do Brasil titles.
He also managed different teams not from Brazil. Among them were Sporting Barranquilla, Al-Hilal, Verdy Kawasaki and Colo-Colo. In 2009, Nelsinho Baptista moved to Japan and since then he’s taken care of Kashiwa Reysol.
