Franco embarked on his managerial career in 2004 when he was appointed as a caretaker of Cruzeiro. Since then he put a stamp on an array of Brazilian clubs such as Ipatinga, Flamengo, Atlético Paranaense and Botafogo. Due to Franco’s impact Ipatinga won the Campeonato Mineiro in 2005 and Flamengo triumphed in the Copa do Brasil in 2006 and passed flying colours in the Campeonato Carioca in 2007. However, Ney Franco fell short of expectations at Botafogo where he didn’t manage to prove his worth as a coach. In the 2009/10 season, he ruled the roost of Coritiba and led the club to the Campeonato Paranaense and Campeonato Brasileiro Série B wins in 2010. In the 2010/11 season, Ney Franco took over the reins of Brazil U-20 team and contributed in their South American Youth Championship and FIFA U-20 World Cup wins in 2011. From 2012 to 2013, he coached Brazilian top club São Paulo. In September 2013 Franco was appointed Vitoria Salvador manager.
