Nigel Graham Pearson is a retired footballer, currently managing Leicester City. He was born in 1963 in Nottingham, England. He began his playing career at Heanor Town, and then switched to Shrewsbury Town in 1981. He played for that team until 1987 and made 184 appearances, scored 5 goals. In 1987, he signed for Sheffield Wednesday. He helped the team to earn promotion to Division One in 1990/91. In 1994, Pearson joined Middlesbrough for £750,000. Twice he helped then to get promotion, in 1997 they finished FA Cup runners-up and in 1997 and 1998 they were runners-up at Football League Cup.
In 1998, Pearson retired and took over his managerial career at Carlisle United. From 1999 to 2001 he was the coach at Stoke City, in 2004 he became an assistant manager at West Bromwich Albion and in 2006 became the caretaker. In October 2006, he became an assistant manager at Newcastle United. in February 2007 he was the caretaker of the England U21 team and then had periods taking care of Newcastle United before he finally took charge of Southampton in February 2008.
In June Pearson moved to Leicester City, where he worked until 2010. He helped them to win the 2008/09 Football League One. In June 2010, he switched to guide Hull City and in November 2011 returned to Leicester City.
