Oleh Luzhnyi is a Ukrainian football coach and former professional defender. He was born on 5 August 1968 in Lviv, Ukraine.
Oleh started his professional career at Torpedo Lutsk in 1985 and went on at his hometown SKA Karpaty Lviv in 1988. However, his career really picked up steam when Luzhnyi joined Dynamo Kyiv in 1989. He got off to a flying start winning the USSR Premier League and the USSR Cup in his debut 1989/90 season. Luzhnyi helped his club to win the Ukrainian Premier League seven consecutive seasons, from 1992 to 1999. Overall, the defender made 253 solid appearances during his ten-year stint with Dynamo Kyiv.
In 1999, his constantly good club performances sparked interest of Arsenal and Luzhnyi signed for the English giant side in the summer. The Ukrainian player was the part of the squad that won the Premier League in the 2001/02 season and FA Cup in 2002 and 2003. He made a total of 75 appearances for the side during a four-year spell.
Since 2003 till 2005, Luzhnyi played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Latvian side Venta before his retirement in 2005. Moreover, Luzhnyi was an international for the Ukraine national team since 1992 till 2003, amassing 52 matches.
He began his managerial career as a manager at Venta in 2005 still playing as a defender for the side. In between 2006 and 2012, Luzhnyi coached Dynamo Kyiv. In 2012, he took over reins at Tavriya Simferopol for one year.
