A former Portuguese footballer, Paulo Jorge Gomes Bento currently guides the Portugal national football team.
He started his professional football career in Palmense, then moved to Benfica where he did not play in the first team, then carried on his career in Estrela Amadora, when the team won the Portuguese Cup. During the season 1990/91 Bento gained 25 caps.
In 1991 Paolo Bento moved to Vitoria Guimaraes, after that he scattered to Benefica, where he spent two years and won the Portuguese Cup.
In 1996 he left for Real Oviedo, where he spent four seasons. Paolo finished his career after four years in Sporting, Portugal. During his last seasons Sporting won the Portuguese Cup and SuperPortuguese Cup.
Since January 15, 1992 Paolo gained 35 caps as the Portugal national football team player.
Having finished his professional career in 2002, Bento started coaching Sporting youth team and in 2005 he went on managing the first team. In 2009 he resigned.
On September 21, 2010 Bento was appointed as the Portugal national football team head coach.
