Pieter Huistra is a former Dutch football player, currently the manager of De Graafschap.
Huistra’s playing career started in 1984 in the Dutch club Groningen, where he played for two seasons, totaling 17 appearances. The next club he went into was Veendam, yet after a mediocre season in the side Huistra penned a deal with Twente and subsequently played in the club for three season, netting a ball 17 times.
The most successful spell in Huistra’s career started in 1990 as he signed a contract with the Scottish club Rangers, becoming the first Dutch player to defend the colors of the prominent club. The talented winger made 125 appearances and scored 22 goals. After leaving Rangers, Huistra joined the Japanese club Sanfrecce Hiroshima, two years later moving to RBC Roosendaal where he retired in 2001.
It was the same year that Pieter Huistra stepped into coaching when he was appointed as the head coach of Jong Groningen and headed the outfit for 4 seasons. In 2005 he was appointed as an assistant coach at Vitesse, but later moved to the same position in Ajax. On 29 April 2009 Pieter Huistra took the spot of Jong Ajax boss, yet a year later was invited to manage FC Groningen, where he spend two seasons but achieved moderate success on the table.
On 30 May 2012 the football club De Graafschap appointed Huistra as the head coach.
