Ranko Popović is a Serbian retired footballer. Currently he is the head coach of FC Tokyo. He was born in 1967, in Peć, Yugoslavia. He began his youth playing career at Budućnost Peć and stayed there until 1988, when he took up his senior career at Partizan Belgrade. During his four seasons with the team he made only two appearances and in 1989 he moved to Leotar Trebinje. There he spent a season and featured in 13 matches, then he switched to Spartak Subotica. In 1994, he joined the Greek side Ethnikos Piraeus for a season. Then he moved to Spain, where he had a spell at UD Almería. In 1997, he moved to SK Sturm Graz and played for the team during four seasons, before he joined TuS FC Arnfels, the last team he played for.
In that club Ranko Popović took over his managerial career. From 2003 to 2006 he was an assistant coach at SK Sturm Graz and then spent a season as an assistant at Sanfrecce Hiroshima. From 2007 to 2009 he managed FK Spartak Zlatibor Voda, than had a short tenure at Oita Trinita. In the 2011/12 season he was the head coach of Machida Zelvia and in 2012 moved to FC Tokyo.
