Raymond Domenech is a former football player and football manager. He was born in 1952 in Lyon, France. He played for such teams as Lyon, Strasbourg, Paris Saint-Germain, Bordeaux, Mulhouse and also was called up to play for the France national team.
After retirement he took over as a manager of Mulhouse, whom he guided between 1985 and 1989. Then he was the head coach of Lyon until 1993. Between 1993 and 2004 Raymond Domenech was the tactician of the France national U21 team and then was appointed the head coach of the senior squad. He led the team through the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. In the finals they beat Spain, Brazil, and Portugal but lost to Italy on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the final. In the 2008 UEFA European Championship France was the last in its group and missed the finals. The 2010 World Cup was a failure as the team guided by Domenech finished last in its group and he left his position.
