Ricardo Alberto Gareca is a football manger from Argentine, currently responsible for Vélez Sársfield. He was born in 1958 in Tapiales, Argentina, and after graduating from Boca Juniors, he began there his senior playing career in 1978. He played for the team until 1984 and during that spell he had a short loan stint at Sarmiento. In 1985 Gareca spent some time with River Plate and then he moved to Colombia where he played for América de Cali until 1988.
From 1989 to 1992 he was a part of Vélez Sársfield. In 1994, Gareca retired as a player after his staying at Independiente. From 1981 to 1986 he represented the Argentina national team and earning 20 caps he scored 5 goals.
In 1996, Gareca took over as the manager of Talleres, after a season he switched to Independiente but soon he returned back to Talleres. He brought the club to the Argentine Primera Division and in 1999 they won the Copa CONMEBOL. In 2000, he left the club for Colón de Santa Fe but soon returned to Talleres again. In 2002, the Argentine manager took charge of the Second Division side Quilmes, in 2003 he headed Argentinos Juniors, in 2004 he was the assistant coach of the Spanish Elche and in 2005 he was responsible for Colombian sides América de Cali and then Independiente Santa Fe. After that Gareca trained Talleres, Universitario and in 2009 he took care of Vélez Sársfield where he still works.
