Ronald Koeman is a former Dutch football player that was born on 21 March 1963.
Koeman started his playing career in the football club Groningen in 1980, where he stayed for three seasons, making 89 appearances and scoring 33 goals. In 1983 Koeman was signed by Ajax and later became one of the promising defenders in the club. After playing for 3 seasons in the outfit, Koeman moved to PSV where he won 9 Eredivisie titles, 2 Dutch Cups and the European Cup.
In 1989 the player was noticed by Barcelona and it was not long before Koeman appeared in the squad of the Catalan club. In Barcelona Koeman played in 192 matches and scored 67 goals, winning La Liga trophy, Copa del Rey, the European Cup of 1992 and the European Super Cup of 1992. The last football club in his career was Feyernoord, where he stayed for 2 seasons, appearing in 60 matches and netting a ball 19 times.
Koeman have been capped 78 times and represented Netherlands at the 1990 World Cup and World Cup 1994.
Koeman entered into coaching in 1995 when he became an assistant coach in Barcelona. Later the Dutchman was appointed as the manager of Vitesse and helped the team to earn promotion to the UEFA Cup. During a four-year stint at Ajax, the tactician brought the team to golden medals of the Eredivisie two times and clinched the Dutch Cup. Another highlight in his managerial career was the spell in Portuguese club Benfica that under his helm claimed the Supercup and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The coach also headed PSV, winning the Eredivisie and Valencia, where he clinched the Spanish Cup.
On 17 July 2011 Koeman was introduced as Feyenoord manager, thus becoming the first man that played and coached all the “big three” Dutch clubs.
In the summer 2014 Koeman became the manager of Southampton.
