Rubén Darío Forestello was born in 1971 in Realicó, La Pampa, Argentina. He began his professional playing career at Almirante Brown in 1991. Then he played for Deportivo Armenio, Sportivo Dock Sud and after that he had short spells at Tristán Suárez, Almirante Brown and Sarmiento de Junín. In 1997 he joind Club El Porvenir, then played for Banfield, Deportivo Italchaco, Atlético de Rafaela, San Martín de Mendoza, Club Sport Emelec and Club El Porvenir, where he ended his playing career in 2006.
In that very year Forestello took over as a manager of Club El Porvenir but worked there for less than a season, then became the assistant coach of Unión de Sunchales for a year and a half and in 2008 he was appointed the head coach and worked with the team during three years before he switched to Ramón Santamarina in 2011.
From March to November 2012, Forestello took charge of Atlético de Rafaela. In 2013 Forestello worked with Club Atlético San Martín and Club Atlético Colón.
