Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, aka Rubi, is a manager and s former professional footballer. Joan was born in 1970 in Vilasar de Mar, Barcelona.
Rubi’s playing career passed defending numerous Spanish clubs from the Segunda División. Among them were such clubs as Manlleu, Espanyol B, CEL’Hospitalet, Pontevedra Club de Fútbol and Terrassa Futbol Club.
A starting point for his coaching career to begin was in 2001, when the former player was appointed as a manager for UE Vilassar. In 2003, Joan managed CE L’Hospitalet and in a year moved to CE Sabadell, where he remained until 2005.
From 2005 to 2010, Rubi was a coach of such Spanish clubs as RCD Espanyol B, UD Ibiza Eivissa and Benidorm CD. In 2011, Sicilia became the assistant coach of Girona FC. In the summer 2012, he earned the promotion and was appointed as the club’s head coach.
In 2014 Rubi was appointed the new Real Valladolid manager.
