Sándor Egervári was born in 1950 in Hungary. He played in such clubs as Budapesti Spartacus SC, Budapest Honvéd, Szegedi EOLAK and MTK.
Egervári started coaching in BVSC Budapest. Under his guidance the team improved their showing. Before taking charge of MTK, which he led to the Hungarian Cup victory, he had spent a short period in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad.
In 1999 he started coaching Dunaújváros and guided them till 2002. The team won the Hungarian Championship in 2000 and showed good results at the UEFA Champions League 2000-01.
In 2002 he returned to MTK, where he spent two seasons. Then he coached Vasas SC for a season. In 2006 he moved to Kuwait and the following season he coached Al Salmiya Club. Győri ETOFC was the next team he took over.
In 2009 Egervári was appointed the head coach of the Hungary national under-20 team and brought them to the third place in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
In July 2010 Egervári was announced the head coach of the Hungary national team.
