Şenol Güneş is a retired Turkish goalkeeper and a coach. He was born on 1 June 1952 in Trabzon, Turkey.
Şenol began his professional career at Sebat Gençlik in 1970. In 1972, he joined Trabzonspor from his home town and that was where he announced himself to the Turkish football. Güneş defended Trabzonspor’s goal for 15 years. During that period he won the Turkish Süper Lig six times and finished as a runner-up three times. Güneş also recorded three Turkish Cups and six Turkish Super Cups together with the club. Overall, he made a total of 424 league appearances for Trabzonspor during a 15-year stint.
A stalwart of Trabzonspor, Şenol Güneş took up coaching at the club in 1988. He led the club to two Turkish Cup and two Turkish Super Cup wins and helped them to finish as Süper Lig runners-up four times throughout his coaching career. Güneş made a great impact as a manager of the Turkey national team leading the squad to the third-place finish in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was at the helm of such clubs as Boluspor, Antalyaspor, Sakaryaspor and the South Korean FC Seoul. In 2009, Şenol Güneş took over the coaching reins at Trabzonspor for a fourth time and managed the team till 2013.
