Simon Grayson is a former professional football player, currently a manager. He was born on 16 December 1969 in Ripon and started his playing career in Bedale FC. At the age of 15 he switched to Leeds United and subsequently worked his way up to the senior squad playing as a defender and a midfielder. In 1992 Grayson joined Leicester City where he made 229 outings in five years. During his spell at Filbert Street the side clinched the League Cup and he was awarded the player of the year award. In 1997 Grayson penned a deal with Aston Villa where he played for two seasons and featured in 49 matches.
Grayson also played at such clubs as Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Stockport County, Notts County. In 2002 he moved to Blackpool where he played in 126 matches and netted six goals.
During the season 2004/2005 he switched to managerial work and was appointed reserve squad head coach. Before the season 2006/2007 Grayson was named the manager of the first team. He led the team to the Championship and the fourth round of the FA Cup and received two Manager of the Month awards.
He was sacked from Leeds on 20 February 2012 and five days later was named a head coach of Huddersfield Town. On 26 May 2012, Grayson led Huddersfield to Play-off victory over Sheffield United, gaining promotion to the Championship.
Grayson was appointed manager of Preston North End on 18 February 2013.
