Anthony Mark Mowbray is a retired English footballer and a manager. He was born in 1963 in Saltburn, England, and began his senior playing career at Middlesbrough in 1982. He played for the side till 1991, being chosen as a captain in 1986, at the age of 22. Mowbray made 348 appearances for Middlesbrough.
In 1991, he joined Glasgow Celtic for a fee of £1 million and played for them until 1995 when he moved to Ipswich Town. In 2000, he retired as a player and in 2002 had a short period at Ipswich Town, where he was a caretaker.
From 2004 to 2006 Mowbray was the manager of Hibernian and twice during his two seasons with the club led them to the fourth position in the league, thus they twice appeared in European tournaments.
In the autumn 2006, he moved to West Bromwich Albion. He changed the squad buying and loaning 14 players and that changes helped the team to win the 2007/08 Football League Championship, get promotion to the Premier League and reach the semifinals of the FA Cup. The following season West Bromwich failed to show good results and suffered relegation from the Premier League.
In June 2009, Tony Mowbray took charge of Celtic and in May 2010 he was released. In October 2010, he was appointed the manager of Middlesbrough and guided the club for three years.
