Valery Gazzaev is a former professional striker and a manager. He was born on 7 August 1954 in the city of Ordzhonikidze.
As a player, Valery left his mark in many Russian clubs like Spartak Ordzhonikidze, SKA Rostov-on-Don, Lokomotiv Moscow, Dinamo Tbilisi. However, he got a legendary status at Dynamo Moscow where he played since 1979 till 1985 amassing 70 goals in 197 league matches.
Gazzaev embarked on his managerial career in 1989 at his feeder club Spartak Ordzhonikidze. He claimed his first silverware as a coach with Alania Vladikavkaz when they won the Russian Championship in 1995. The 2000s brought Gazzaev true Glory. In the 2002/03 season, he was in charge of the Russia national team. As a coach of CSKA Moscow Gazzaev collected all the major trophies – the Russian Champion title, Russian Cup and Russian Super Cup – three times each, and recorded the UEFA Cup victory in the 2004/05 season together with the club.
In 2011, Valery Gazzaev took over reins at Alania Vladikavkaz and coached the club till the end of 2012/2013 season when Alania got relegated from the Premier League.
