Walter Zenga is a retired Italian goalkeeper and current coach of Al Nasr in the UAE Pro League. He was born on 28 April 1960 in Milan, Italy.
The most part of his playing career Zenga spent at the Italian giant club Internazionale where he played since 1982 till 1994 amassing 328 appearances. In 1987 Zenga’s terrific performances earned him the Serie A Footballer of the Year title. The 1988/89 season was a historic campaign for the keeper as he won Serie A title and Italian Super Cup together with the club. Zenga went on his success winning the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year in 1990 and collecting two UEFA Cups in 1991 and 1994.
In 1994, Walter left Inter and played for a number of clubs such as Italian Sampdoria and Padova and American MLS side New England Revolution until his retirement in 1999. Since 1987 till 1995, he was awarded 58 caps to the Italy national team and was an instrumental figure during the 1990 World Cup when his side finished third.
Walter Zenga embarked on his managerial career as a coach of AC Milan’s amateur side Brera Calcio. In 2002, he left for Romania and took charge over Naţional Bucureşti and then over Steaua Bucureşti. He helped the latter to win the Romanian top-flight Liga I in 2005. Next year Zenga was at the helm of Serbian club Red Star Belgrade and led them to the double victory - Serbia and Montenegro SuperLiga and Serbian Cup, in the 2005/06 season. In between 2006 and 2011, the Italian ruled the roost in many clubs such as Turkish Gaziantepspor, Romanian side Dinamo Bucureşti, Italian Catania and Palermo, Saudi Arabian Al Nassr. In the summer 2011, Zenka took over the coaching reins at UAE side Al Nasr and coaches the team today.
