The Bahamas national football team was formed in 1967 as he Bahamas Football Association was founded. The following year they became the member of FIFA and in 1981 they joined the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association of Football (CONCACAF). Their international debut came in 1970 and that was an 8-1 loss to Netherlands Antilles. Throughout its history the team has never qualified for the World Cup and CONCACAF Gold Cup. In 1971 they played in the first round of Pan American Games.
Their biggest win was in 2011, when they defeated Turks and Caicos 6-0, and the biggest loss was a 0-13 defeat to the national team of Mexico.
