The Comoros national football team came into existence in 1979. It made its debut in the Indian Ocean Island Games in the same year. The team is controlled by the Fédération Comorienne de Football. In 2003, it joined the Confederation of African Football.
The Comoros managed to become a FIFA full member only in 2005 and have rather low-key FIFA record. From then onwards, the squad featured for only few championships without being crowned with much success. Comoros’ biggest win was when they beat Djibouti 4-2 during in the 2009 Arab Nations Cup qualifier. The team even had a golden chance to perform in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but eliminated shortly after their shameful 2-10 on aggregate defeat to Madagascar.
