Djibouti national team represents this African country on the international football arena. It is superintended by the Fédération Djiboutienne de Football which affiliated to CAF in 1986 ad to FIFA in 1994.
The team played their first match as French Somaliland against Ethiopia, for whom it was a debut as well, in December 1947. In 1977, Djibouti was proclaimed an independent country and the team got their current name in 1979. However, they are too poor a team to ever qualify for the World Cup or African Cup of Nations.
Djibouti celebrated their biggest 4-1 win over South Yemen in February 1988 and suffered their major 0-9 loss to Rwanda in December 2007. As of February 2013, they are ranked 204th in the FIFA world list, reaching the 169th position in 1994 at the utmost.
Due to their location upon the Red Sea, Djibouti national team are often nicknamed the Shoremen of the Red Sea. They play their home matches at Stade du Ville which can host up to 10,000 spectators.
